The Airport received grant money from the Federal Aviation Administration and Stimulus money to improve the safety area around runway 9R-27L. Construction commenced on July 22,2009 and has progressed a lot since then. The safety area around the runway will be leveled and covered in aggrigate to provide a stable surface. The cracks on the runway will also be sealed and the runway will have a 2 inch overlay, along with grooving and fresh paint.
Perimeter Fence
The Airport recently received a grant from the Federal Aviation Administration under the Airport Capital Improvement Program (AIP Grant 12) to construct perimeter fencing. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid led the charge in Congress to secure the funding for this project, which otherwise would not have been funded by the FAA. The project includes upgrading substandard fencing along Airport road, installation of missing fencing along the common boundary with the Boulder Creek Golf Course, and repair or replace the southern boundary fence. The majority of the fencing is six foot (6') tall chain link topped with two foot (2') of barbed wire. Anticipated project completion is anticipated by October 31, 2008.
Airport Drainage Master Plan Update
The Airport has contracted with Kimley-Horn & Associates to update the Airport Drainage Master Plan. Funding for the project was secured through an Airport Capital Improvement Program Grant through the Federal Aviation Administration (AIP Grant 11). Once completed, the airport will seek additional funding in a future fiscal year through the AIP program to implement the master plan recommendations.
Runway Safety Area Engineering
The Airport has contracted with Kimley-Horn & Associates to prepare the necessary studies and engineered grading plans to improve the runway safety areas for all three runways, including the runway overrun areas and sides. The Airport will be seeking FAA funding through the Airport Capital Improvement Program for Fiscal Year 2009-2010 to construct phase I of the runway safety improvements.
Aircraft Engine Run-Up Areas
The Airport has contracted with Kimley-Horn & Associates to design and prepare the necessary drawings for bid to construct three (3) aircraft engine run-up areas adjacent to the Runways 9R, 27L, and 33. Funding for implementation will be sought from the Federal Aviation Administration in a future Fiscal Year.
