Outlook Good for 46 Animals Impounded Recently

9.3.19 impounded animal update

The process of rehoming 43 cats and three dogs recently removed from a home in Boulder City took a giant leap over the weekend, according to Boulder City Animal Control Supervisor Ann Inabnitt.

The best news, she explained, was that six feral cats were placed with rescue groups over the weekend and commitments were received from other groups for the remaining cats that can not be placed in adoptive homes.

Although a few cats in the group had been spayed or neutered previously, Inabnitt said the remainder of those impounded – 30 cats – were altered and vaccinated last week.

Approximately 20 cats Inabnitt considers “special needs cases” are responding to efforts to condition them to human touch, eating and drinking from bowls and using a litter box. She said they are responding very well to their new situation and believes they will be ready for adoption soon.

As of September 3, Inabnitt said there are five cats ready for adoption and six kittens should be ready for adoption within 10 days.

The other bright spot of the weekend, she said, was that more than 1,000 pounds of food and nearly 1,000 pounds of litter was donated to the shelter to help the cats. She said area residents, some from as far as Summerlin, answered the call for the donation of crates and that at this time, the Shelter has enough to house all of the cats.
