Boulder City Police K-9 started in November of 2001 thanks to City Manager John Sullard, Mayor Bob Ferraro, and Chief Bill Turk. If it was not for the patience of these three men, Boulder City would not have one of the best K-9 teams on the West Coast. We have modeled our program after the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department and each handler carries two dogs. One dog being a patrol dog and the other a detector dog. LVMPD also trains our dogs and handlers and has been a "Big Brother" for our small unit. Barry came to Boulder City in March of 2002. Barry (seen above in his vehicle) was our third dog because the first two did not pass training. Barry is a Belgian Malinois and his job is to find people and evidence. Since graduating from training in May of 2002, he has caught 58 people and rescued one person. He has help locate guns and knives and has been used by National Park Service, Hoover Dam Police Department, Henderson Police Department, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, North Las Vegas Police Department and the DEA on finding suspects, search warrants and barricaded subjects. He has won numerous awards and is certified in Nevada, Utah, and nationally by the National Police Canine Association.
Time was our first narcotic detector dog and was donated by the Nevada Highwya Patrol in June of 2002. Time retired in January of 2005 because of health reasons. She was adopted by a Boulder City Detective and is living the dogs life she deserves.
Quest is our second narcotic detector dog. (pictured right finding narcotics) Quest came to us in February 2005 from the North Las Vegas Police Department and we are thankful to them for donating her to us. Quest is an English Springer with heart, energy, and personality to spare. Since arriving in Boulder City, she has found a lot of drugs and money. In 2006, she found $68,000.00 in the passenger door of a vehicle and in 2007, she found over a half a million dollars in a spare tire. Quest has been used by Hoover Dam Police, National Park Service, Henderson Police Department, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, North Las Vegas Police Department, and DEA. She has taken Top Dog at the Las Vegas Metropolitan K-9 Trial in 2006. She is certified in California, Nevada, Arizona, and nationally.
