The Boulder City Law Enforcement Academy (BCLEA) is certified by as a Category II Peace Officer Academy (Certificate # 08-041)

BCLEA Class 2008 graduated on 7 August 2008.

Due to budgetary restraints, there will not be a Category II Academy in 2010.

Are you interested in becoming a Nevada peace officer?  Believe it or not, your assessment and evaluation as a potential candidate begins the moment that you contact an agency.

Police work is a demanding profession with high standards and strict rules of conduct.  Education and training are on-going throughout an officer’s career.  Graduation from a police academy is only the beginning of an officer’s training.  Most agencies require 16 – 20 weeks of field training after the academy.

A peace officer must possess and acquire myriad skills, knowledge, and abilities in order to achieve and maintain certification as a peace officer.  One of the most critical skills is the ability to obtain and comprehend information – especially that which is written.

All information pertaining to the next academy will be posted on this web site.  There is no tentative start date.  The Boulder City Police Department is a small agency with limited resources.  Please do not send e-mails to the chief of police or call the dispatchers about the next academy.

Thank you for your patience and support.

Q:  What can I do now to prepare for an academy?

A:  After obtaining medical clearance from your physician, you should embark on a rigorous fitness program incorporating aerobic, anaerobic, and strength training.  Please do not embarrass yourself by beginning your fitness program on the first day of the academy.

A physical fitness test battery consisting of the vertical leap, sit-ups, push-ups, 300-meter run, and 1.5 mile run will be administered on the first day. The standards are specified in NAC 289.200 and require a minimum vertical leap of 14 inches, no less than 15 sit-ups in one minute, no less than 18 push-ups, a 300-meter run in not more than 77 seconds, and a 1.5 miles run in not more than 17 minutes and 17 seconds. Successfully passing the physical fitness test battery is mandatory for graduation from the BCLEA.

It is recommended that you have at least one pair of quality running shoes and one pair of quality footgear for the Academy. From the Recruit Manual: "Duty footgear should be the accepted color of your agency (usually black) and match your duty gear. The style shall be boot or shoe of solid color, low heel, smooth round toe, plain finish, and without ornamentation. Combat boots, "Reebok"-type athletic shoes, and patent leather shoes are not allowed. "

Do not wait until the Academy starts to "break in" your footgear.
