[ARCHIVED] Boulder City Prepares for Phase Two of Recovery

Skate Park

BOULDER CITY – The City of Boulder City is preparing for Phase Two of Governor Sisolak’s Road to Recovery plan. Testing continues, staff is working with our Chamber of Commerce and businesses to make sure they are prepared and in compliance, and our Parks and Recreation staff is getting ready for more activities to open to the public.

Mayor Kiernan McManus thanked City staff, businesses and the community for cautiously completing Phase One and planning well for Phases Two and beyond. “A great deal of that is going to depend on us doing our part to not only keep ourselves safe, but those around us safe,” Mayor McManus said. “The guidelines continue: maintain social distancing, wear a face covering or mask when you’re out in public, and be respectful of what other people are going through in their lives. It’s important to understand the reason we’re taking these precautions is not for just for us individually, but also for those around us.” (View the video message from Mayor McManus: https://youtu.be/ytfWLaR27_8.)

Last week, the City completed a two-day community drive-through clinic providing COVID-19 nasal swab tests. More tests were taken this week in our senior and assisted living homes. “We appreciate that staff and residents allowed testing teams on site this week,” said BC Fire Chief William Gray, Incident Commander for the City’s COVID-19 Response. “The tests we use are far less invasive than the original test; ours only require a short swab in the nose, and many commented that they felt no pain whatsoever during the test.” If you were tested and have not yet received results, call Boulder City Fire Department at 702.293.9228. The Southern Nevada Health District tracks COVID-19 cases at www.snhd.info/coronavirus#cases.

Since announcing Phase Two on Tuesday, Parks and Recreation Staff have received dozens of calls and emails from community members looking for news and information. Employees are working hard to prepare to open more activities for kids and adults. “We are excited to be able to offer more Parks and Recreation opportunities to the Boulder City Community,” said Roger Hall, Parks and Recreation Director. “In an effort to comply with the CDC guidelines and the Governor’s framework, there will be some changes in how we operate, but we look forward to the coming days.” The Skate Park, basketball and volleyball courts open Friday; the pool and splash pad open later in June.
