[ARCHIVED] Boulder City Celebrates Virtual Historic Preservation Month in October

1938 City Overview

BOULDER CITY - Boulder City is a community that prides itself in a wonderful history tied to the construction of the amazing Hoover Dam. From the humble beginnings of the brave families that arrived in 1931, there is a unique, steadfast quality that makes Boulder City special. While the pandemic postponed the annual celebration of Historic Preservation Day in May, the Boulder City Historic Preservation Committee (Committee) is taking that “can-do” approach to celebrate the past and advocate for the future by holding a Virtual Historic Preservation Month Celebration in October.

The public is invited to participate through virtual tours of four local properties that epitomize community dedication and determination for preserving and promoting Boulder City’s unique history. This year’s Historic Preservation Award will also be presented virtually. “We looked at how we could celebrate these historic properties in a safe, healthy manner,” said Boulder City Mayor Kiernan McManus. “I applaud the Committee for thinking of ways to honor these locations while protecting the community.”

The list of properties will be shared on October 1, 2020, and the tours will roll out throughout the months of October and November. For event information, visit www.bcnv.org/613/Historic-Preservation-Day. “We are fortunate to have so many people who value our past and work to preserve it,” said Al Noyola, City Manager. “In addition to volunteers, the staff puts in time and effort to ensure these events are successful. I am thankful for all they do.”

The Boulder City Historic Preservation Committee aids property owners in maintaining and enhancing the worthwhile historical resources of Boulder City including properties located within the Boulder City Historic District. Boulder City became a Certified Local Government in 2019 and is working in partnership with local, state and national governments to promote historic preservation efforts.
