BOULDER CITY – Boulder City Fire Department is teaming up with Boulder City Hospital to ramp up efforts to eradicate COVID-19 here in Boulder City. City and Hospital staff, as well as volunteers, will be working to vaccinate more than 1,500 Boulder City residents per week for free over the next three months.

Working with the Boulder City Hospital and Southern Nevada Health District, the City has access to and ability to deliver an estimated 380 doses per day. The City will be using the Moderna vaccination. Two shots, given 28 days apart, are 94-percent effective. (More about the vaccine: www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/vaccines/different-vaccines/Moderna.html.)

The clinic will be staffed by Boulder City Fire Department paramedics, Advanced EMTs, and community nurses.  All vaccinators have received specific training to administer the vaccine.  “We will have emergency response crews on scene to manage any medical issues that arise,” said Boulder City Fire Chief Will Gray.   “If no side effects are observed, which is the normal response, people will be released fifteen minutes after the vaccine is administered.”

“This is the chance for the residents of this great community to protect themselves from this deadly pandemic, as well as protect their families, friends and neighbors,” said Boulder City Mayor Kiernan McManus. “We cannot move forward and get back to normal as long as the cases continue to climb and more of our loved ones are lost to this virus. I am proud of the ambitious schedule the team from the City and the hospital has put forth, getting through an estimated 300+ vaccinations per day.”

Residents MUST call Boulder City Parks and Recreation at 702.293.9256 Monday-Thursday 8:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. to make an appointment. Please note offices are closed Monday, January 18 for the Dr. Martin Luther King Holiday. Do not leave a message, send emails or try to contact other staff. You must speak directly with a scheduler to secure an appointment.  Those without an appointment will be refused

Clinics held at the Elaine K. Smith Building, 700 Wyoming St, and the Boulder City Hospital, 901 Adams Blvd, both in Boulder City. There is no charge for vaccinations. The clinics will start January 25 and run Monday through Thursday, from 8 a.m.-noon and 1 p.m.-3 p.m. for people 70 years of age and older (must show ID) and educators (who will be required to show a valid school system ID). Scheduling for the next priority group - ages 65-69 (as determined by the State) - will be announced in the coming weeks.  That will be followed by ages 16-64 years with underlying medical conditions, individuals with disabilities, and individuals experiencing homelessness. Healthy adults 16-64 will be the last group to receive the vaccine.
