BOULDER CITY – Visitors to City Hall and City-operated facilities in Boulder City do not have to wear a mask if fully vaccinated against COVID-19, effective today (Monday, May 24). That is defined as receiving the second shot more than two weeks ago (or one shot if you received the Johnson & Johnson vaccine). The City will require employees and visitors who are unvaccinated to wear a mask.
Boulder City Mayor Kiernan McManus welcomes the new guidance. “It wasn’t easy this past year to change habits and avoiding being with friends and loved ones,” Mayor McManus said. “The vast majority of our residents understood the personal responsibility to protect families, friends and neighbors. Seeing the strain of the pandemic lifting and the threat of the disease lessening is what we have all been hoping to realize. Having more of our residents be vaccinated may finally put this behind us and let us all get the important parts of our lives back.”
Some measures within City Hall will remain. Staff will continue to encourage customers to conduct business electronically or by phone. When customers need to meet in person, business will be conducted at an EOC approved window or with Plexiglas as protection in a designated meeting room. “Customers that are unvaccinated will be required to wear face coverings,” said Fire Chief Will Gray. “Customers will still be prohibited from employee office areas.”
Hygiene and sanitation are still priorities. “Surfaces frequently touched by multiple people - such as doors, desks, phones, light switches, and more – will continue to be thoroughly cleaned and disinfected daily,” said Michael Mays, Acting City Manager. “We continue to recommend if someone feels sick, stay home. I know from speaking with staff, many are glad to get back to a sense of normalcy.”
The City of Boulder City had halted late fees or disconnect service for non-payment of utility bills due to COVID-19 in March 2020. Beginning July 1, 2021, the City will resume late fees and disconnection processes. City Council earmarked CARES Act funding through Emergency Aid of Boulder City. Boulder City Police Department started processing sex offender registrations again today as well. “Staff will need to fingerprint the registrant, which requires close contact between staff and the public,” said Police Chief Tim Shea. “All persons must be wearing masks when engaged in fingerprinting, regardless of vaccination status.”
