[ARCHIVED] City Council Unanimously Selects Brittany Walker as City Attorney

Brittany Walker - City Attorney 5.2021

BOULDER CITY – Brittany L. Walker, Esq. is able to drop “acting” from her job title, now that she is officially the City Attorney for Boulder City.  She swore the Oath of Office this morning in City Council Chambers and will provide counsel during the regular City Council meeting tonight at 7:00 p.m. at City Hall. Ms. Walker was selected from a field of nine candidates for the role. Council and Ms. Walker agreed to contract terms last week during a special City Council meeting.

Named acting city attorney for Boulder City in October 2020, Ms. Walker has excelled at handling legal issues for the City. She has also reviewed draft bills, amendments, and updated Council and staff throughout the current Nevada Legislative Session. “Since I assumed this role on October 21, I went straight to work that day. I am so grateful for this opportunity to serve as your City Attorney,” Walker told the Council. “I love this city; I love this staff; I love working here, and I will continue to dedicate myself to the City.”

Ms. Walker was scored the top candidate after the interview process in April.  She will receive a base pay of $125,000 annually, and will be evaluated by Council after six months, followed by evaluations in or around March each year.  “You’ve been doing a lot of work for us over the past several months,” said Mayor Kiernan McManus after the unanimous vote to approve the contract. “This now makes it official.”

Updates to the City Code, including the Historic Preservation Ordinance and the vague leash law, are items she hopes to present to Council and the community in the coming months.

Ms. Walker’s experience includes working for Holland & Hart LLP, Las Vegas, NV as an Associate and in the Nevada Court of Appeals for Chief Judge Abbi Silver. She graduated from William S. Boyd School of Law, University of Nevada, Las Vegas and is licensed to practice in Arizona and Nevada. She and her husband Matt are currently in the process of buying a home in Boulder City.
