[ARCHIVED] City Receives Two Awards for Annual Financial Reporting

Popular Annual Finance Report Award

BOULDER CITY – Boulder City staff received the “Award for Outstanding Achievement in Popular Annual Financial Reporting” (PAFR) from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA). It is the first time Boulder City has prepared this report, receiving the award on its first effort. The City also received the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting.

Independent, impartial reviewers determined the report for fiscal year ending June 30, 2020 “substantially met” the requirements of the PAFR Program. (Notifications of the awards have been delayed in the past year due to the pandemic.) Only 510 governmental agencies in the U.S. and Canada prepare this specific report; 261 of those are municipal government agencies.

The panel judges the PAFR based on an evaluation of information presented, reader appeal, understandability, distribution, and other elements.  “My staff takes great pride in making sure our financial information is easy to understand, especially for the average resident who may have little or no experience in accounting or finance,” said Diane Pelletier, Boulder City’s Finance Director. “In my four years here, we’ve made it possible for residents to open our checkbooks with the click of a mouse to see where the City funding is spent and more. We are committed to transparency.”

The other award is the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting – presented to Boulder City for the last 31 consecutive years. The award recognizes the annual comprehensive financial report for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2020. That makes four awards for the Finance Department from the GFOA in the past six months, including two awards for Distinguished Budget Presentation (FY20 and FY21 budgets) last year. “The Finance Department does a great job at making budget presentations and publications educational and easy to read,” said Taylour Tedder, City Manager of Boulder City. “I appreciate their resourcefulness and creativity when publishing these presentations and reports.”

The City should receive a plaque from GFOA in April. You can view all of the City’s Finance publications online at www.bcnv.org/finance/publications
