[ARCHIVED] Fire Department Steps Up to Support OPERATION FAST RESPONSE – UKRAINE

Donation from Fire Dept. to Ukraine

BOULDER CITY - Boulder City Fire Department (BCFD) is proud to support firefighters in the Ukraine, sending surplus equipment to their firefighting brothers and sisters halfway around the world through OPERATION FAST RESPONSE – UKRAINE. The effort started to help Ukrainians affected by the war by sending clothing, toiletries, medical supplies, and personal care items.  But as fire departments across the war-torn country were battling to fight fires and save lives following missiles attacks, they were quickly losing vital gear and equipment to continue their work.

In early March, Jason Read, former Chief of the Hopewell (NJ) Fire Department, reached out to fire service agencies across the country asking for donations of surplus gear and equipment.

On April 11, BCFD answered the call.  Through Boulder City Fire Chief Will Gray’s efforts, and with the support of City Manager Taylour Tedder, BCFD donated 21 Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) packs, 28 SCBA bottles, and 12 structural helmets. (The SCBA items were recently replaced due to their age through a FEMA Grant.)  “It’s great to be able to put our old equipment to use in a way that can hopefully save lives during these difficult times.  I want to thank our city leadership for support these efforts,” Chief Gray said.

Henderson-based Hero Flooring stepped up to provide no-cost shipping to Linden, NJ.  From there, the equipment will be shipped to Warsaw, Poland, where it will be distributed to fire agencies in Ukraine.
