BOULDER CITY - Boulder City Police Department officers responded to a call around 9:00 this morning to a parking lot at Boulder City Parkway and Buchanan on a welfare check. The caller said a man was in the driver’s seat of a car with his eyes closed, sweating profusely. Officers made contact with the man, who refused to roll down his window, unlock or exit his vehicle. Officers determined the identity of the driver and learned he had multiple warrants for arrest. The man continued to be uncooperative and drove away from the officers.
Officers attempted to follow the car, but lost sight of him. Residents in the area pointed out his route of travel and officers caught up to the car just before it crashed into another vehicle at the corner of Fifth Street and Avenue I. No injuries were reported at the scene. The driver then ran from the car. Officers continued to search for him when they heard the sound of gunshots coming from Northridge Drive. Officers ran toward the sound, during which time they pursued the man through a number of residential backyards. Police located a homeowner who had discharged their firearm at the man. The homeowner stated the man crawled through their dog door and was attempting to hide in the house. The man was not hit and ran from the homeowner. Officers continued to search, and eventually located the man in a desert area behind the residences. The man surrendered and was taken into custody uninjured. Detectives on scene determined the homeowner’s actions were in self-defense. The man remains in custody facing multiple charges including Evading and Hit and Run.
