Currently, the city wastewater facility removes solids from wastewater and treats the water so that it is safe enough to send into the desert. Some water is sold for use at solar farms and gravel pits, but between 1 million and 1.5 million gallons is sent into the desert daily. On March 14, Southern Nevada Water Authority (SNWA) shared four options for wastewater reuse. City Council selected two options for further studies and input:
• Option 2: Direct Reuse (to irrigate City golf courses, parks and industrial use)
• Option 3: Return to Lake Mead via a Recharge Well
Residents are invited to a staff-led discussion to review these two options and to learn more about the next steps in the process. The discussion is scheduled for Tuesday, April 4, 2023 at 5:00 p.m. at the Elaine K. Smith Building, 700 Wyoming St. in Boulder City. Visit www.bcnv.org/Water for details on the options and Boulder City’s efforts to date. (This presentation is in-person only and will not be live-streamed.)
