[ARCHIVED] City Wins Distinguished Budget Presentation Award – Again!

Budget Award 2024

BOULDER CITY – The Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) announced that the City of Boulder City, Nevada received GFOA's Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for its FY2024 (July 1, 2023-June 30, 2024) budget for the fifth year in a row! This significant achievement by the City’s Finance Department reflects the commitment of the governing body and staff to transparency as well as meeting the highest principles of governmental budgeting.

In order to receive the budget award, staff had to satisfy nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation. These guidelines are designed to assess how well an entity's budget serves as:

  • a policy document;
  • a financial plan;
  • an operations guide; and
  • a communications device.

Budget documents must be rated "proficient" in all four categories, as well as in the fourteen mandatory criteria within those categories, to receive the award. “Our Finance Department staff works diligently to prepare a comprehensive budget that is transparent and clear,” said acting City Manager Michael Mays. “This recognition is one of three needed to win the GFOA’s coveted Triple Crown Award, which honors governments who have received GFOA's Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting, Popular Annual Financial Reporting Award, and Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for fiscal year.” Less than two percent of municipalities win the Triple Crown; Boulder City has won four years in a row. (Winners are announced in December.)

Budget Presentations from previous years can be viewed on the City’s website at bcnv.org/Archive.aspx?AMID=41.

 There are over 1,700 participants in the Budget Awards Program. The most recent Budget Award recipients, along with their corresponding budget documents, are posted quarterly on GFOA's website. Award recipients have pioneered efforts to improve the quality of budgeting and provide an excellent example for other governments throughout North America.

 Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) advances excellence in government finance by providing best practices, professional development, resources, and practical research for more than 22,500 members and the communities they serve.
