[ARCHIVED] Major Upgrades to Enhance Safety, Mobility on Nevada Way

Nevada Way Reconstruction Area map - 2025

BOULDER CITY - City Council voted June 10, 2025 to approve the Nevada Way Reconstruction project. Their approval comes after City staff held more than two dozen public outreach efforts regarding parking and infrastructure changes on Nevada Way, from Wyoming to Colorado Street. The priorities of this project, known as Option 2A, include enhancing traffic safety, accessibility and circulation, and multimodal usability while supporting local businesses and preserving community character. Businesses will remain open during the reconstruction.

City staff aligned the project with the time of year business owners say is slowest for them due to heat and fewer visitors: July through September. Crews are scheduled to start work on July 7, 2025, weather permitting.  During the reconstruction period, expect traffic detours during the hours of 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. (weekends excluded) along that stretch of Nevada Way.

What’s planned:

  • Street Rehabilitation – Replace 23-year old asphalt that is in poor condition due to wear from traffic and extreme weather.
  • Infrastructure Improvements - Replace 50+ year old water services with 18 copper water service lines (that will meet current standards); install 21 backflow prevention devices (to protect the water distribution system); and replace two mainline water valves. These upgrades will better protect the water distribution system. By doing these improvements while the street is under reconstruction, the City saves money, as well as future street closures and utility repairs.
  • Improving Access and Walkability for All - Provides a dedicated walkway for pedestrian movement past businesses with outdoor seating and display items. Allows sidewalk extensions on both sides to meet ADA/PROWAG (Public Right-of-Way Accessibility Guidelines) standards. Updated ramps and decorative crosswalks are planned.
  • Restriping - Code-compliant parking spaces will include angled parking on the north side of the street and parallel parking on the south side. Three additional accessible parking spaces will be added (bringing the total to six).  Dedicated motorcycle parking.

Once complete, an additional 29 vehicle parking spaces will be created in the vicinity. The estimated completion date is September 25, 2025. The project is funded by the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada and the Utility Fund.  Thank you for your patience throughout the project.
